Christians should be the least offendable

I am going to start out by saying that I call things how I see them and you will absolutely know up front what I’m thinking and why I’m thinking it. Ok, now that we have that out of the way, you know what you’re getting by choosing to continue reading.

Everyone is offended by everything these days. Doesn’t it seem that way? It’s just crazy the amount of words or actions that are suddenly totally and completely unacceptable. There is a major surge of adults turning away from their parents because of one thing or another that happened (or didn’t happen) in their childhood. It just seems like it’s so hard to get away from and it makes what should have been easy conversations become fear filled encounters.

But here’s the thing. According to Psalm 119:65, things should look different for people who love God’s Word. They should have peace and not be offended by anything.

Seems strong and powerful, right? Because it is! God’s Word is alive and active and it actually does give peace and power to the believer. If we are so grounded in His Word, on what His view of us is, on how He teaches me to love? Then you can say whatever the heck you want…do whatever the heck you want, and I will not be moved.

Christians should be the least offendable because if we are really being true to what we are calling ourselves (followers of Jesus) then we have no business being offended. We know that God is the judge. We know that vengeance is His. We know that people are human. We know that eternity is what matters.

So whatever someone else has to say about me? Has not bearing on my life.

We should look different, because we are different. We are set apart. We have a confidence that shines and looks different because we don’t waste our time being offended by every little thing.

So the next time you are tempted to get irritated and offended by what someone has or hasn’t done, flip over in your Bible to Psalm 119 and remind yourself that you are choosing to miss out on the peace that God has given to you by being offended.

You will be much happier that way too.
